Invite by email · Feature

Invite by email, with a role.

Per-person, per-role, persistent. Unlike a public link, an email invite goes to one identity and persists in their workspace. You can change their role or revoke access at any time.

Type the email. Pick Write. Click Invite. They're in.

What it actually does.

The pieces of invite by email that matter, in plain English.

INVITE

Email + role + send.

Pick Read (view + comment) or Write (full edit). The invite is one email with a link, sent from sweetdocs. They open it, sign in (existing account or sign up free), and the doc appears in their workspace.

PERSISTS

Lives in their workspace.

Shared docs show up under Shared with me in their sidebar. They can come back to it any time without searching their email for the link, until you revoke access.

REVOKE

Take access back any time.

Open Share, find the person, click Remove. Their access disappears mid-session if they have the doc open. The doc disappears from their Shared-with-me list on next refresh.

CHANGE

Promote, demote, transfer.

Read can be promoted to Write at any time. Write can be demoted to Read. On Pro and Teams, you can also assign Manage (share + delete) and transfer ownership entirely.

Who uses it for what.

Real situations this solves.

Founder

"I want my co-founder editing the pitch alongside me."

Invite by email, pick Write. They edit with their own cursor and name. You see who changed what.

Lawyer

"I want a client to read but not edit the contract draft."

Invite by email, pick Read. They view in their workspace, can comment, cannot change the text.

Manager

"I want the team handover doc to follow my replacement after I leave."

Invite them, pick Manage. They can re-share, edit, and (on Pro+) take full ownership when you transfer.

Editor

"I want freelance writers submitting drafts I can sign off on."

Invite them with Write, review their drafts in your workspace, revoke access when the project ends.

Questions worth asking.

The things people ask before they try it.

What if they don't have a sweetdocs account?
They get a sign-up link in the invite email. Free accounts work for shared docs, so there's no payment friction. The doc waits in their workspace as soon as they sign up.
What's the difference between Read and Write?
Read can view the doc, copy text out, and leave comments. Write can do all of that plus edit the content. Manage (Pro+) can also re-share and rename.
Can I see whether they opened it?
Yes. Open Share, Activity. You see who has viewed the doc and when, with timestamp. Useful for following up on a contract or a brief.
Can they share with someone else?
Read and Write cannot re-share. Manage (Pro+) can re-share with other people. Owners can do anything including transfer ownership.
Can I share a folder all at once?
Pro and Teams. Right-click the folder, Share, add people. Anyone you invite gets the assigned role across every doc in the folder, including new docs added later.
Does revoking happen immediately?
Yes. If they have the doc open when you revoke, their next save fails and the doc becomes read-only on their screen with a 'access removed' banner.

The other five.

Writing

A fast, calm place to write.

The editor doesn't get in the way. Headings, bullets, links, quotes. They just work. No toolbar circus, no setup. It looks like a real document while you write it.
