Share by link · Feature

A link anyone can open.

A shareable URL is one toggle away. Public means read-only — viewers can read, copy text, export. They can't edit, they can't see your other docs, they can't see your history.

Link copied

Flip the toggle. The URL appears. Click Copy. Send wherever.

What it actually does.

The pieces of share by link that matter, in plain English.

TOGGLE

On or off, instantly.

One switch in the Share panel. Off means private, on means anyone with the URL can read. Flipping back to off kills the link immediately, mid-session if needed.

READ-ONLY

They can read, not edit.

Public viewers can read the full doc, copy text out, and export to Markdown or PDF. They cannot edit, comment, see version history, or see anything else in your workspace.

THEMED

Carries your theme.

The reader view uses whichever theme the doc was written in, so a Cherry-themed memo arrives looking like a Cherry-themed memo. The sweetdocs footer is small and discreet.

PRO+

Password + expiry on Pro.

On the Pro plan, add an optional password to gate the link, or set an expiry date so the URL stops working after a set time. Free links are open-on-toggle, off-on-toggle.

Who uses it for what.

Real situations this solves.

Writer

"I want to send a draft to a friend without making them sign up."

Toggle public link, copy, paste into a DM. They open it in a browser and read. No account, no app install.

Founder

"I want the deck readable from a one-line link in an investor email."

Public link, paste into the email. They click, they read. You see the view in your activity log.

Teacher

"I want students to read my course notes from any device."

Public link, drop into the LMS or pin in Discord. Students read on phones, tablets, school laptops, anything.

Marketer

"I need a public landing-style URL for a one-off whitepaper."

Public link with the Indexable toggle on. Google can find it; readers do not need a sweetdocs account.

Questions worth asking.

The things people ask before they try it.

What does the public link actually share?
A read-only view of the current draft. Viewers can read, copy text, and export. They cannot edit, cannot see version history, cannot see other documents in your workspace.
Can I kill an active link?
Yes, flip the toggle off. Anyone with the URL gets a polite 'this link is no longer active' message the next time they load it.
Can I put a password on the link?
Pro and Teams plans. Open Share, Public link tab, Password. Set one, share it separately. Removing the password is one click.
Will Google index the link?
Public links are noindex by default. Flip the Indexable toggle on if you actually want search engines to find it, for example a public docs page or a one-off whitepaper.
Does the link change if I edit the doc?
No, the URL stays the same forever (until you delete the doc). The reader always sees the latest saved version. Refresh to pull updates in mid-session.
Can I share a folder this way?
Folder sharing uses the invite-by-email flow on Pro and Teams. Public-link sharing is per-document.

The other five.

Writing

A fast, calm place to write.

The editor doesn't get in the way. Headings, bullets, links, quotes. They just work. No toolbar circus, no setup. It looks like a real document while you write it.
